RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das Tenure Is Likely To Get Extended
The government is likely to prolong the Central Bank Governor's tenure for the second time, three sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.
If this move occurs, he will surely become the longest-serving chief since the 1960s.
In fact, Das was one of the most trusted bureaucrats in Prime Minister Modi's administration until he was nominated to chair the Reserve Bank of India in December 2018, during a period of difficult relations between the government and the central bank.
According to sources, no candidate is being considered, and no selection process has been established to determine Das's replacement. As a result, it is expected that the RBI Governor's term will be extended.
Another source with direct knowledge stated that the decision is expected to be made after the Maharashtra State Elections.
